Freelance Writer, for Living Beyond TBI, Inc.
David Mercaldo, born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, can be described as a passionate, committed and well-traveled educator in Brooklyn, New York with a knack for creative writing. For the past three years, he’s been a teacher at Cultural Arts Academy Charter School, where he is well known in the Brownsville community as “Professor Mercaldo,” a strong communicator who listens and embraces diversity. In those three years, he has established himself as a leader in curriculum writing earning himself the dual role of Primary Years Coordinator and lead 5th grade teacher.
Pulling from his daily experience of teaching youngsters how to write prolific writing pieces, David now brings his passion and creativity to publishing his own writings. David has partnered with Living Beyond TBI to interview and form trusting relationships with survivors of traumatic brain injuries to effectively tell their stories. David’s focus on the survivor’s perspective is done to promote an inspiration to all readers, especially survivors and their families.
Prior to relocating to Brooklyn, New York in 2014, David Mercaldo served as a 5th grade teacher at the Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School, head coach of the boys youth lacrosse team, and director of a youth summer camp on Martha's Vineyard. Studying abroad in southern Spain, learning in diverse classrooms, and traveling independently has helped David foster an open mind and global perspective. David has earned a B.S. in Legal Studies and Spanish from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island and his M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
